If you’d like to join us, our Business Service Centre in Budapest, supporting the Group’s subsidiaries across EMEA, is currently looking for new colleagues to join the Business Intelligence and Reporting team responsible as a Data Engineer supporting all ABG Enterprise applications and databases.

Job Summary:

Avis Budget Group (ABG) is seeking a technologist to help provide development and support within a new centralized global data engineering and business intelligence team.  This role will require strong business acumen, deep and broad understanding of database systems and technology, a strategic and technical mindset, as well as the ability to work with multiple business and technical stakeholders from across the organization.  The successful candidate will have a passion for data and technology. 

 

This person will play a key role in the implementation of the technology required to support data systems that are leveraged for visualization, business intelligence, reporting and analytics for ABG. This individual will work closely with varied functions and levels across the organization, including business partners, internal IT associates, vendors, contractors and executives/leaders.  This person will help with the support and advancement of ABG’s Enterprise Data Lake and associated databases in AWS, including the enforcement of best practices, governance, and focus on automation, efficiency and performance. 

 

This person is a strong listener, able to ensure collated business and technology strategies are reflected in the vision on how to leverage engineering to get the right data into the right systems and made available for operational use, analytics, data science, insights, reporting and intelligent decision making. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Demonstrates knowledge of one or more primary ABG business models, key drivers, systems, technologies and/or support systems
  • Provides deep and broad technical expertise in the support of data engineering and data lake platforms and use of technology in conjunction with Enterprise Architects
  • Works with business teams to assess data engineering needs
  • Monitors and provides data engineering services to support the Enterprise Data Lake and other core database systems globally – this includes data modeling, ETL/data integration, SQL development, database and query tuning, data staging/prepping/normalization, etc.

Required Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a similar discipline
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of relevant work experience in data engineering and/or business intelligence
  • Considerable experience working with multi-site, global and/or off-shore development teams
  • Experience working on large scale, enterprise-wide projects or transformational programs

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Technical skills:

  • Solid expertise in areas of data engineering and management, including: data modelling, ETL design and development, data and metadata management, query design/development/tuning, database optimization, data governance, data quality concepts
  • Understanding of relational and multidimensional databases: multiple year experience with at least one RDBMS system, conceptual understanding of data warehouses, multidimensional data sources.
  • Experience working with big data concepts, solutions and software including: Hadoop, Hive, Spark, data streaming technology experience is a plus (Kafka)
  • Strong understanding of cloud technologies, especially AWS platform, at least basic knowledge on core AWS services: S3, EC2, EMR, managed RDBMS services, Redshift, Athena, Glue, Kinesis
  • Solid experience with one traditional ETL tool is a must: preferably Informatica and/or SSIS, experience with any cloud based big data ETL tool is a plus
  • Strong experience with BI/presentation tools: Tableau and/or Cognos BI
  • Knowledge of an object oriented programming language is a plus (Python or Scala is preferred)

 

Soft skills:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills, agile, self-confident with proven problem solving skills, and has the ability to learn and adapt technologies
  • Knowledge of the estimation and planning process, work with Waterfall, Iterative or Agile SDLC methodologies, ability to work according to enterprise processes, regulations by applying standards and practices,  experienced in software development and code-management methodologies
  • High-performing individual making commitments consistently meeting targets, raises initiatives and offers improvement alternatives chasing evolution and continuous progress
